Inside the butler's pantry in Sandringham House, just beside a small cupboard containing Sloe wine and several crystal glasses; is a small secret door discretely set into the carved wainscoting. Behind the door is a long stone staircase leading down to the wine cellar where the King keeps his favourite tipples.
The wine cellar has many little rooms that are set aside exclusively for the use of the Royal mice. The mice families ( for there are many) have lived there for generations and were first employed by the Great Queen herself, to tend to her cellars ensuring they are kept clean and tidy and to keep a watchful eye on the servants who occasionally were tempted to sample the sweet sherry from its cask.
The cellar mice are very small you see, and can reach the most tiniest nooks and crannies with their little dusters and they have the keenest eyes - ready to report any problems to the King personally.
The King repays them for their service by providing each family with a neat little apartment, and food and beverages from the Royal kitchens.
This little diorama is a copy of one of them.......

This was the second of five dioramas I purchased. You can see in the previous review how much we adore this one and all the others.
